Response to Busting the ‘you can’t learn difficult things after a certain age’ myth
I really enjoyed reading through your post, especially the way you challenged the stereotype that learning only happens when you are young. The examples you gave, such as immigrants adapting to the host culture and learning a new language, as well as the adults learning to ride a bike, demonstrate that for learning to happen at old age, persistence and motivation matter more than age. I think the growth mindset also comes into play, which says that learning happens due to effort and strategy rather than fixed ability. I think that it might take a long time for adults to learn a new skill or language, but in the end, the sense of accomplishment might even be bigger due to the challenges faced along the way. I also found your personal story of learning guitar inspiring, as it shows the power of consistency. Although I do wonder if your maturity and discipline played a role in helping you stick with guitar more than you might have as a kid?
