Neuromyth
I have heard various neuromyths when I was in High school. One that I remember was that if you drink more water during an exam, it will help your brain to improve focus and memory. My parents used to force me to take a water bottle with me during exams. I also started to believe in it, thinking that drinking extra water would give me an academic edge. After looking deeper into this myth, I found out that being hydrated is good for overall health, but drinking extra water doesn’t improve your focus or memory.
I found this article on the NI Water website, which I thought might be interesting in regard to this myth.
After learning about the science behind this myth, I was taught to carefully investigate new information that I consume, especially when it seems too good to be true. I always do my research for the facts, and understanding the science behind them gives me more confidence in the information. Learning about the science of learning and brain function encourages me to depend on evidence-based strategies rather than myths or quick fixes.
